About Us

Who are we?

We are anyone and everyone! We are made up of Edmontonians from all walks of life. There are some staff from St. Joseph's College, there are a few staff of the University of Alberta. We have professionals, and parents, retirees and youth. We come from all walks of life and we share one commonality-- the desire to help Syrian Refugees who are seeking refuge in Canada.  In other words, we are you! We welcome your involvement and for you to join us! Please email us in the CONTACT section of you would like to be involved.

Here is a breakdown of our committee structure, for your interest and also if you can see an area you would like to lend your gifts and talents.

Committee Structure:


 Example responsibilities:

-          Record keeping

-          Meeting support

-          Liaising with Catholic Social Services

-          Email account management 


 Example responsibilities:

-         Understanding finance issues and banking needs for the year 

External Communication & Fundraising

 Example responsibilities:

-          Website and social media updates

-          Updating interested donors 

-          Liaising with St. Joe’s, U of A, other SJ     groups

-          Leading fundraising efforts

Arrival and Registrations

 Example responsibilities:

-          Picking family up at the airport

-          Alberta Health registration and government registrations

-          Arranging temporary accommodation

-          Orientation week

-           Ensuring basic items are ready for arrival 

Housing and Clothing

 Example responsibilities:

-          Finding rental accommodation

-          Sourcing furniture and household items

-          Shopping for clothes and personal items 

-          Moving and set up

-           Storage of items 

Education and Employment

 Example responsibilities:

-          Enrolling children in school

-          Arranging language assessments

-          Assisting with language practice 

Cultural Awareness and Social Settlement

 Example responsibilities:

-          Providing information to the group to help understand refugee experience

-          Assist family with learning about the city, transportation, etc. 

Health and Wellbeing

 Example responsibilities:

-          Assisting with finding a family doctor and arranging appointments

-          Connecting with mental health providers

-          Finding recreation opportunities
